How a dog gets featured
We feature one dog at a time on this page and in what we send the pack. A photo of your dog in the field, a short note about who they are, and their name in print.
- Join the pack. Name and breed are enough to start.
- Send us a photo when you have a good one. Outdoors, working, muddy, asleep in the truck — whatever is true. Reply to any email we send you and it reaches us.
- We pick one and write it up. Nothing is published without asking you first.
Odin
Odin is a German Shepherd, and he wears the Ridgeline in Ranger Green. His is set up the way the MOLLE panel is actually meant to be used — a name tag across one flank, a flag patch on one of the two pouches that come with it.
Worth saying plainly, because his photographs are now the ones you see when you pick Ranger Green: the harness and both pouches come in the box. The name tag and the flag patch are his own — the webbing takes whatever you want to add.
Ghost and Shadow
Ghost is the reason there is a first aid article on this site, and the reason it is the only one on here written from memory instead of research. He has needed stitches more than once, and there have been more emergency vet runs than we care to count. For every one of those there were several more we handled at home out of a human med kit, because a human med kit was what was in the house. It got most of the way there every time and then stopped in the same few places, which is what that article is about.
They are also the reason the size calculator throws a coat warning the moment you type in a shepherd. Ghost is three and short-coated. Shadow is eight months and long-coated, which on a young dog is the worst combination for guessing — the coat adds girth that is not the dog, and the dog underneath it is still growing. Measure a long-coated shepherd the way it looks and you will size up a whole step, and a harness one size too big is the one that turns and rubs.
Ghost and Shadow are not featured here because they are the best-looking dogs in the pack. They are featured because right now they are the only dogs in it. When that changes this block gets someone else's dog in it — and we will have asked first.
